American Airlines continued to honor its heritage with this special edition Piedmont Airlines livery. This model, bearing the registration number N744P, represents this commemorative Airbus A319. Piedmont Airlines began operations in 1948 with DC-3s in Winston- Salem, North Carolina. At the time Piedmont Airlines was acquired by USAir in April 1989, they operated a large fleet of Boeing 727 and 737 aircraft. The combined carrier became one of the east coast's largest airlines. USAir subsequently changed its name to US Airways. US Airways then merged with American Airlines in late 2013.
